SCP retroBreach Facility Zones

Facility overview

SCP retroBreach inherits the classic breach-facility spine: Light Containment Zone (LCZ), Heavy Containment Zone (HCZ), and Entrance Zone (EZ), then Surface beyond the gates. Sandbox Engine’s beta remake still uses that order even when hallway art changes. If you only memorise three ideas, make them these: LCZ is loot and early chaos, HCZ is transit under pressure, and EZ is where escapes and reinforcements collide.

This page expands the map hub with practical landmarks. Pair it with escape routes once you can navigate without a second glance at each checkpoint.

Light Containment Zone (LCZ)

LCZ is where most Class-D rounds begin. Cell blocks open shortly after round start. Corridors trend toward white concrete walls with darker floors and ceilings — a visual cue that you are still in the “soft” wing of the site.

What you do in LCZ

  • Scavenge keycards, weapons, meds, and utility items from rooms and corpses.
  • Reach SCP-914 to refine cards and guns when the chamber is not already a graveyard.
  • Survive early SCP pressure from anomalies that spawn or path through LCZ (exact roster depends on mode and round).
  • Hit the LCZ–HCZ checkpoint once you have enough clearance to leave before decontamination or a riot collapse.

SCP-914 remains the high-risk, high-reward machine. Rough and Coarse can destroy or weaken gear; Fine and Very Fine chase upgrades with failure chance. Do not camp the booth forever — SCPs learn the 914 gate, and Christmas-era map tweaks did not remove that camp pressure.

Class-D Riot makes LCZ feel completely different: prisoners spawn with pistols, grenades, and bandages while security rushes the cell wing. There may be no SCP hunt, so the zone becomes a linear fight for 914 and the checkpoint instead of a stealth puzzle.

Council Rescue also stresses LCZ hard. O5 agents can spawn with strong pistols and high-level cards, yet SCPs release quickly and MTF support may arrive late from Gate B rather than from a deep weapons depot. Secondary hallways matter more than a single “safe” room.

LCZ habits that win rounds

  1. Leave cells with a plan: card first, then gun, then 914 — not the reverse if the chamber is contested.
  2. Listen for chase audio before opening the 914 gate.
  3. Watch decontamination timing; patches have fixed cases where LCZ decontamination failed to kill, which means you cannot trust broken timers forever either.
  4. If you are Foundation spawning deeper, treat LCZ as a cleanup and rescue zone, not a loot spa.

Heavy Containment Zone (HCZ)

HCZ is the mid facility: darker containment architecture, deadlier anomalies, and the mandatory bridge from early loot to Entrance Zone. Players who panic-sprint HCZ without a card plan often die at the next checkpoint with nothing to show for it.

HCZ priorities

  • Keep moving unless you are deliberately holding a choke for teammates.
  • Expect Tesla or anomalous hazards depending on layout segments — Christmas hallway replacements (server rooms, classrooms) can change sightlines even when the zone order stays the same.
  • Treat HCZ–EZ checkpoints as contested doors. Mid-tier cards open them; timers close them. Stacking four players at a door is how SCP-173 or a flamer ends a run.
  • SCPs use HCZ as a hunting highway between LCZ prey and EZ defenders.

In Containment Breach, HCZ is where Class-D transition from scavengers to escapees, and where MTF or security try to cut them off. In Class-D Riot, HCZ can become a running gunfight if prisoners break out of LCZ with upgraded kits. In Council Rescue, HCZ is often the gauntlet O5 must survive while Alpha-1 is still rotating from Gate B.

HCZ mistakes to avoid

  • Standing in open trisections to invent.
  • Burning all meds before the EZ fight.
  • Ignoring teammate cards — one Level 3 carrier can move a whole squad if you stay stacked.
  • Forgetting that some SCPs ignore “closed door” comfort; raycast and pass-through threats punish camping.

Entrance Zone (EZ)

Entrance Zone is the administrative and security layer: offices, linear corridors, Guard influence, Gate A and Gate B approaches, and the Tesla near Gate B that punishes tunnel vision. EZ is less of a maze than LCZ/HCZ for many players, but it is denser with human conflict.

EZ landmarks that matter

  • HCZ–EZ checkpoints — Level 3 style clearance in the classic loop; doors reopen on short timers.
  • Gate B approach — Level 4 style clearance for the gate itself, elevator ride to Surface, then extraction for successful escapes.
  • Gate A side — alternate surface connection and common Chaos Insurgency / warhead-adjacent pressure in the wider rBreach tradition; learn both so you are not soft-locked if one gate is held.
  • Tesla near Gate B — treat it as a mandatory awareness check, not background scenery.

Security and task forces care about EZ differently than Class-D. Foundation players often spawn with better early positioning toward EZ and must decide whether to push down into HCZ/LCZ or hold the gates. Escaping Class-D want the elevator cycle and the surface extraction room; they should study the Class-D path on escape routes.

Council Rescue can turn EZ into a late-game rescue corridor once O5 leave LCZ alive. Class-D Riot survivors who reach EZ without SCP interference still face organised security and possible reinforcements.

Surface and why zones still matter

Surface is not a fourth “puzzle wing,” but it is the payoff layer: elevators, extraction, and reinforcement spawns. Escapes convert into Chaos Insurgency or allied pressure; Foundation reinforcements pour back through the gates. If you do not know which gate you ascended, you will spawn-camp the wrong road.

Linking zones to controls and events

Pickup UI now mirrors SCP:CB-style hover prompts — press interact (commonly E on PC) or use the on-screen prompt on console. That matters at checkpoints when you are swapping cards under fire. Read PC controls and console controls before blaming the map for a missed grab.

When current events advertise X2 TIX weekends, more players flood LCZ and 914. Expect camp denser than off-peak. After Christmas-scale patch notes, re-walk HCZ hallways once; art swaps change peeks even when card requirements stay familiar.

Practice checklist

  1. Spawn Class-D, leave cells, find 914 without opening every side room.
  2. Card up, clear LCZ–HCZ, then HCZ–EZ without stopping to duel unless you must.
  3. Open Gate B, ride the elevator, reach extraction once so muscle memory exists.
  4. Repeat as Guard or MTF and hold the same doors from the opposite side.
  5. Review the map hub summary whenever a friend asks for a short explanation.

Zone mastery is the difference between a lucky escape and a repeatable plan in SCP retroBreach.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for SCP retroBreach players.

What does LCZ stand for in SCP retroBreach?

Light Containment Zone — the early facility wing with Class-D cells, SCP-914, and the first checkpoint toward HCZ. Start here on the map hub.

What is HCZ used for?

Heavy Containment Zone is the mid facility bridge between LCZ loot and Entrance Zone gates. Expect tougher SCPs and contested checkpoints.

Where are Gate A and Gate B?

Both sit in Entrance Zone approaches to Surface elevators. Gate B is the common escape and MTF-side reference path described on escape routes.

Is SCP-914 in LCZ?

Yes. SCP-914 is the landmark refinement machine in Light Containment. It is powerful and frequently camped — do not treat it as a safe AFK spot.

Did the Christmas update change zones?

Zone order stayed the same, but some hallway trisections became server rooms and classrooms. Recheck sightlines after reading patch notes.

Which mode stresses LCZ the hardest?

Class-D Riot turns LCZ into an armed rush, and Council Rescue can make early LCZ lethal for O5 when SCPs release fast. Containment Breach mixes loot, SCPs, and escapes.
